Study Skills Class

We will be offering a study skills class in January.  The class will meet 1/19, 1/24, and 1/26 after school.  Students need to sign up by turning in the application form to Mrs. Hernandez in the Tiger Den.  Applications are also available in the Tiger Den and at Study Skills Application. 

College and Career Focus Night

We will host our College and Career Focus Night on 11/8 at 7:30 in the LGI.  We will start with a general session in the LGI and then have breakout sessions about Financial aid, Scholarships, College Selection and Application, and How AP Courses Impact College.

College Night

Its time for our CISD College Night!  Don't forget to stop by the Lone Star Convention Center at 7PM to learn about a variety of colleges and universities.  I hope to see you there!

PSAT

October 13th will be an exciting day at CHS! 
- All freshmen will be in a guidance program for periods 1-4.  This program will cover study skills and will have 2 guest speakers.
- All sophomores and juniors will take the PSAT during periods 1-4.  It is important that students prepare for this exam.  There are several options available to students to prepare for this exam, contact Ms. Harbin or Mrs. Wilfer in the College and Career Center for details.  This is a timed exam and it is important for students to be on time.
-All seniors will take the ASVAB during periods 1-4.  This test can be used as a tool for career exploration and can help students pinpoint academic areas that they need to strengthen.

Leadership High School

Juniors that are interested in learning about leadership need to apply for Leadership High School.  It is a county wide program sponsored by Lone Star College.  Conroe High School is able to send 3 delegates to this great program.  Applications are due to Mrs. Joiner no later than 9/24.  The applications are available on Mrs. Joiner's website in the "downloads" section.  They are also available on Naviance.

AP Scores

College Board mails AP scores to students during the month of July.  They use the address provided by the student on their answer document.  If you have moved you will have to call College Board at 888-225-5427 to request a report or you can email them at apexams@info.collegeboard.org.  To make things easier, have your AP number handy.  It can be found on your student pack.

Summer Plans for Class of 2011

Wow!  Its summer already and many seniors are taking it easy this summer, but there is no rest for the weary.  Seniors should be working on college essays, resumes, and collecting letters of recommendations from community members.  They should also be working on narrowing down their choice of college by visiting campuses and researching the schools using online tools such as Naviance and My Road.  Doing prep work during the summer will give seniors a leg up on the competition for scholarship money and for admissions into competitive universities.  We had a student that graduated in May, she got into her first choice only because of her prep work over the summer.  She visited the university, got contact information, and continued to talk with them about what it would take to be admitted.  Not only did she get admitted, but she also got a large scholarship. I encourage all our seniors to work on these things over the summer so that they can also get their first choice of college and get scholarship money.

Study Skills class

We will have a study skills class this summer.  It is open to the first 50 students that register.  Registration forms are available on the CHS website and on Mrs. Joiner's website.  Turn in your completed form to Mrs. Contello in the CHS Tiger Den.

Course Selection

Course selection is not over yet!  You have until May 14th to make changes to your courses for next year.  You can do that in writing by stating what course you want drop and what course you want to add.  Then give that to your counselor.  We will also give you a print out during TAKS test to show you what you signed selected for next year.

Course Selection

Don't forget that you will have until May 14th to change any of your course selections for next year.  We will pass out additional copies of verification forms during TAKS testing.  You can make changes on that form and turn it in to your counselor.  You can also make changes by writing a letter that includes your name, ID, the course you wish to delete, and the course you wish to add.

Internships for Juniors

Juniors interested in EfTA internships need to turn in their applications to Mrs. Joiner no later than 4/12.  The application is on their website at http://efta-us.org/index.htm?SIP.htm

Boys State

Boys State applications are due to Mrs. Joiner by Friday 3/26.

CHS AP T-Shirt Proposed Designs

Here are the 2 finalists for our CHS AP T-Shirts.  Remember, we can change the colors and will double check that all our exams are written on the shirts.  Feel free to leave a comment about which shirt you favor.  Our AP Studio Art students did a great job this year on our shirt designs.  We will still use the other design for the CISD AP shirt.

Registration for AP Exams

Don't forget that Friday 2/12 is the deadline to register to take AP exams.  You must register online.  This is a great opportunity to take an expensive exam for just $5!

More shirt information

One thing I have learned in working with high school students is that t-shirts are very important!  So, here's our update on the AP t-shirts.  First, CHS is hosting the CISD AP Prep Conference.  That means that we get to design the shirt for that event.  Also, we will have a CHS AP t-shirt.  Last year we started a new tradition of having the AP Studio Art students design the CHS shirt.  This year's AP Studio Art students will be finished with their design by Friday and I will post it here.  Then, we will see what design we want to use for the CISD shirt and then what design we will use for the CHS shirt.

Shirt design for AP Conference

AP Prep Conference- More than another free t-shirt

CISD will be hosting its annual AP Prep Conference on April 17th from 7:30 AM - 2:30 PM.  This year's conference is at Conroe High School.  Be sure to register at AP Prep Conference Registration .  And you get a free t-shirt.
