Why is the PSAT important

As we get closer to the October 17 PSAT testing date for 10th and 11th graders (optional for 9th graders), the benefits of this test have become more apparent:

• Students will get practice taking a timed test: TAKS testing was on an unlimited time basis, STAAR/EOC tests are timed

• Students and parents will receive a score report that will provide an estimate of what the student's SAT score might be

• The PSAT score report comes with an access code that translates to five different services provided for FREE by the College Board, the creator of the PSAT

• The PSAT score from the test taken in the junior year is used to determine National Merit winners. There are National Awards for Hispanic and African American students that also use these PSAT results. The benefits of these honors appear in many ways when it is time to attend college. All students should do their best on this exam. CHS honorees this year are: National Merit Commended Scholar: Tanner VandeWalle National Hispanic Recognition: David Rodriguez

Distinguished Achievement Program

It is time for seniors to apply for our highest diploma called the Distinguished Achievement Program (DAP).  This program gives students a special distinction in the graduation program and on their final transcript. Seniors must have had at least three years of a foreign language to be eligible.  Seniors currently in their third year of a foreign language are also eligible.  They also must complete a total of four "alternative measures".  These can be things like: dual credit classes, scoring a 3 or higher on an AP exam, being a National Merit Scholar or Hispanic Scholar, or advancing with their science fair project.

It is an honor to be a DAP student.  In order to start the process, simply fill out the form below and return it to Mrs. Joiner in the Tiger Den by November 9th.  She will let you know if you qualify or not by January.  If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Joiner at lajoiner@conroeisd.net or 936-709-5676.  Copies of the form are also available in the counselors' offices and in the Tiger Den.
